Advance Local/The Patriot News is seeking a full-time Press Machine Operator to work on our products and those we print for our commercial print contracts. We're willing to train staff for the Press Machine Operator role on our high technology Goss press line as part of the crew in printing quality newspaper products. While some offset printing experience is preferred, we are willing to training individuals who are mechanically inclined and/or forklift certified. Candidates will engage in all aspects of operating a daily newspaper offset printing press such an ability to set color, registration, make and install plates, lead sheets, operate folder and operate reel room equipment, advancing as training and competency is demonstrated. Candidates should have demonstrated mechanical and troubleshoot ability, understanding of safety protocols along with relevant computer and math skills. You must have the ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, team environment and ability to carry out independent assignments. We pride ourselves on maintaining a clean production environment and well-maintained equipment. This position requires ability to work a flexible schedule as necessary. Position requires evening shift, weekends and holiday work. Hours are 3:30 or 4 pm until end of press runs each night (typically 11:30 or midnight). This position is located primarily in a climate-controlled production environment with elevated noise levels requiring personal protective equipment. Physical nature of job requires ability to stand throughout shift, use of stairs, ability to lift up to 80 lbs infrequently and ability to move rolls of newsprint.
