Job Summary

The College of Business at Florida International University is currently seeking a Senior Development Officer to join our team of professionals. The development officer plays a crucial role in fundraising and donor relations for the College. Supports the strategic fundraising efforts of the College by designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining the College's development activities, with an emphasis on annual leadership giving of $25,000 or more. The individual will personally identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors and prospects in accordance with performance targets in collaboration with the Division of Advancement at FIU.
  • Plan, develop, and execute fundraising campaigns and initiatives to secure financial support for the College's programs, scholarships, centers, institutes, and other projects. Assists in the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy with goals, objectives, and measures to evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising efforts.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift donors and prospects, including individuals, corporations, and/or foundations, through visits and other forms of direct personal contact in accordance with performance targets set by the College in collaboration with the FIU Division of Advancement.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing donors by providing regular updates on the impact of their contributions and showing appreciation for their support. Develop personalized stewardship plans to engage donors and ensure their continued support.
  • Work closely with the College's alumni boards to engage alumni in fundraising efforts and foster a sense of pride and loyalty among former students. Develop, coordinate, and evaluate programs and projects to promote alumni relations and educational programs designed to connect alumni. With the Chapman Graduate School in developing activities and networking events to engage current students in possible giving opportunities.
  • Collaborate in the planning, execution, and direction of donor-related activities for the College, including but not limited to donor recognition events, signature lectureship series, alumni events, and other fundraising events designed to increase the visibility of the College to external constituencies.
  • Work collaboratively with College leadership and faculty to identify potential grant opportunities, write grant proposals, and manage the grant application process to secure funding from other foundations.
  • Identify and work with the FIU Foundation to manage and liquidate any tangible personal property gifts.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to engage donors, alumni, and the community through social media and other channels.
  • Track and report on fundraising progress, donor retention rates, and the impact of funds raised on the College's initiatives. Report progress regularly to College leadership.
  • Make effective use of the university's prospect management database (RaiserEdge/NXT) and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, and alumni in coordination with College objectives.
  • Assist with the management of the College's endowment.
  • Handles donated funds in the form of checks or negotiable securities. Accesses confidential information regarding gifts and donors. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality of prospect and donor records. Works closely with the FIU Foundation, University Advancement, and COB Finance and Administration.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of fundraising, sales, and/or sponsorship experience.

  • Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes.
  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives.
