Duties and Responsibilities
A Staff Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Drs. Elliot and Glassberg to study translational aspects of lung injury, repair and fibrosis with specific emphasis on the role of vascular dysfunction and aging in the progression of chronic lung diseases.
Planning, implementation, and analysis of advanced scientific research projects
- Interprets data, statistical and data analysis.
- Evaluates need for new technologies and train laboratory staff on proper use of equipment.
- Collaborates with faculty and other researchers
- Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports and co-authors scientific research manuscripts
- Operates and maintains a variety of scientific instrumentation which is essential to conducting the appropriate laboratory work. This would include equipment such as laboratory microscopes, centrifuges, incubators and autoclaves.
- Employs safety measures in working with hazardous chemicals, laboratory animals, and radioisotopes.
PhD or M.D
Qualifications
Established experience in three or more of the following areas is highly desirable: 1. Advanced techniques in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology; 2. Primary mouse and human cell isolation, culture, and sorting of lung cell populations; 3. Cell/tissue imaging techniques such as fluorescence and confocal microscopy; 4. Single cell sequencing and analysis; 5. Extracellular vesicles and miRNAs related work.
The candidate will be expected to develop and execute independent research plans leading to peer-reviewed publications, have a strong work ethic and possess excellent oral and written communications skills. Maximum consideration will be given to candidates enthusiastic about science, with high research motivation and initiative towards independence.

- Performs isolation and characterization of cells relevant to ongoing studies.
- Immunohistochemistry and fluorescent microscopy
- Designs experiments and conducts animal studies (genotyping, colony management, breeding).
- Evaluates need for new technologies and train laboratory staff on proper use of equipment.
- Collaborates with faculty and other researchers
- Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports and co-authors scientific research manuscripts
- Operates and maintains a variety of scientific instrumentation which is essential to conducting the appropriate laboratory work. This would include equipment such as laboratory microscopes, centrifuges, incubators and autoclaves.
- Employs safety measures in working with hazardous chemicals, laboratory animals, and radioisotopes.
- Maintains an extensive data base of samples, protocols.
- Supervises and trains graduate students, residents, and medical students who work in the lab.
- Performs related duties as required.
