Position Description
This is a temporary position.
Under general supervision, organize the day-to-day operations of the District's Upward Bound Math & Science program. The position will assist the Director by performing duties that ensure the success and stability of the program along with supporting the meeting of program goals and metrics of student support. This position will require serving a cohort of students at local high schools with most of the time spent at our partnering high schools, connecting with students in the program in a variety of ways.



Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Support the recruitment process of students in the program.
  2. Host information sessions, facilitate class visits, and generally promote the opportunities to prospective students.
  3. Create and sustain a consistent schedule of being at our partnering high schools.
  4. Create and sustain a consistent schedule of participating student check-ins while on site at our partnering high schools.
  5. Coordinate with partnering high school administration to establish an agreed upon schedule and workflow for supporting participating students.
  6. Develop and maintain systems for tracking and reporting key program information.
  7. Attend all Upward Bound Math & Science Saturday Sessions, field trips, and program events.
  8. Respond to participating student emails regarding general questions and/or support requests, as well as respond to prospective student inquiries.
  9. Collaborate with a range of campus partners including but not limited to: Admission Records, Counseling, Tutoring, and a variety of faculty.
  10. Participate in campus wide conversations regarding the Upward Bound Math & Science program.
  11. Work at more than one District site, as needed.
  12. Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of the Colleges' students, faculty, staff and community.
  13. Effectively engage and support historically disproportionately impacted groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices.
  14. Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Of
  1. Recruitment and marketing strategies.
  2. Student support and retention practices.
  3. Higher education application process including but not limited to: Community College, California State University, and University of California.
  4. Financial aid.
  5. Data tracking and reporting tools and software.
  6. General office software and equipment.
Skills To
  1. Use data analysis and tracking software to extract data and develop workshops, events, activities, and programs.
  2. Plan, organize, and facilitate large group discussions, field trips, and workshops.
  3. Apply knowledge of student development theory to holistically support students.
  4. Use content management software to update the departmental website.
  5. Use marketing strategies to promote workshops, programs, and support services.
  6. Use knowledge of financial aid and matriculation processes to develop awareness of important deadlines and provide support services that will allow students to reach postsecondary education.
  7. Use general software to support tracking and obtaining student and program goals.
  8. Use general office software and equipment to develop work schedules, presentation materials, reports, aggregate data, organize events, and communicate with District staff.
Ability To
  1. Implement a marketing and recruitment timeline that fosters program number requirements.
  2. Build professional relationships with participating students that fosters academic, career, and personal development.
  3. Develop and maintain collegial relationships with Ohlone campus partners and partnering high school administration and staff to develop a workflow that supports student success in the program.
  4. Deliver presentations to a variety of partners including but not limited to students, parents, Ohlone campus partners, and partnering high school administration and staff.
  5. Coordinate with Ohlone and community partners to facilitate workshops and discussions during the Saturday Sessions.
  6. Facilitate academic, professional, and personal development workshops and discussions during the Saturday Sessions.
  7. Maintain a detailed tracking system for participating student that satisfy program goals and metrics.
  8. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of a Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in a related field.
AND
Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college employees and students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
Other Requirements
A valid California Class C Driver's License
Physical Demands
This position requires physical abilities needed to work in a standard office setting, including but not limited to:
  1. Standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods; occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and twisting.
  2. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling light and moderate amounts of weight.
  3. Operating office equipment which may require repeated fine motor skills (e.g.: keyboard use).
  4. Ability to communicate in written and verbal forms.
  5. The position requires vision and hearing in normal ranges (with or without correction) sufficient to operate any assigned equipment and the ability to clearly communicate with others in written and verbal forms.
