Job Description Summary
The Community for Rigor (C4R) is a growing and innovative team at the University of Pennsylvania with the goal of transforming research practices through producing effective educational materials. We envision a global community in which every scientist has the attitude, training, and reflection that enables them to do great rigorous science. Community for Rigor is a 5-year funded project from NIH NINDS, and operates as a hub that coordinates the efforts of multiple partner institutions.

The Full Stack Developer for C4R, based out of the Kording Lab, will be responsible for the development of high traffic educational technology at the intersection of AI, mathematics, academia, and research. They will work in a team of 2-5 developers and with external collaborators to build our platform for educational content using web technologies such as HTML, CSS, Javascript/Typescript, JS frameworks (React, Node.js, etc), and Python (JupyterBook). Design, code, and debug educational content to ensure the development team meets its deadlines. Foster their individual success and that of the C4R team through professional development and peer learning.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop effective and visually appealing online educational tools that engage target audiences.
  • Collaborate with various C4R teams to develop new features and functionality.
  • Support building and refinement of development processes that can be implemented both before and after launch.
  • Alongside team members, coordinate website launches, security reviews, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Assist project managers by monitoring milestones, tasks, and resources needed as projects develop, keeping all team members and stakeholders up to date throughout.
  • Maintain communication from project inception to launch and beyond.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 to 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical experience:
    • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and at least one of: React, Node.js, Vue, Svelte, Angular
    • Python Familiarity
    • Database familiarity, including one of: GraphQL, SQL Family, MongoDB
  • Experience with responsive and adaptive design, and accessibility features.
  • GitHub or GitLab workflows (pull/merge requests, code review, etc)
  • Strong problem-solving, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and flexible; demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced academic environment.


Desired Qualifications
  • Understanding of key visual design or UX design principles.
  • Redux or other state stores
  • Bootstrap, MUI, and, Tailwind, or other frontend frameworks and design systems
  • Command line fluency
  • AWS or other cloud providers (certifications are a bonus)
  • Web animations (e.g., LottieFiles)
  • JupyterBook (able to modify the source to support more responsiveness)
