The Center for Research on Health Care (CRHC), in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh and UPMC, is seeking full-time health services and clinical research investigators with qualitative methodology expertise at the level of Assistant Professor. The advertised position is a non-tenure track position with the opportunity to apply for the tenure track in the future, depending on the incumbent’s qualifications and desired career pathway. Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with experience in clinical and/or health services research, with a particular focus on qualitative methodologies. Special consideration will be given to individuals with interests in health care disparities and the care of minority and vulnerable populations.

The incumbent will join a group of CRHC faculty who study a broad range of health-related research topics and possess diverse methodological expertise across the qualitative and quantitative spectrum. Within this center, the incumbent will join a group of faculty and staff who focus on qualitative methodological collaboration on a wide variety of health-related projects; data collection methodologies employed include interviewing, focus groups, and observation. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to collaborate or seek joint appointments with a large VA HSR&D Center of Innovation (CHERP). The incumbent will be expected to develop, perform, and disseminate health services and clinical research projects in their areas of interest, with the goal of becoming a successful independent investigator. CRHC faculty are supported in their professional development by engaged mentorship from senior faculty, exceptional research training and career development programs, and robust infrastructure including statistical and budget support. The incumbent also will provide additional mentoring to students, fellows, and more junior faculty in the practice of clinical research.

Applicants for Assistant Professor should have one or more years of experience in the field of clinical and/or health services research; demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding supporting innovative research; have disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums; have relevant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for career development and promotion.
