Job Summary

The Upward Bound Project is a federally funded program to encourage post-secondary preparation of high school students who are from low-income families and are first-generation college-bound students. The summer component consists of an intensive, six-week academic program during which the students reside in the University residence halls and receive high school enrichment instruction in language arts, foreign language, mathematics, financial literacy, and science. Supervised recreation, guidance and peer advising, and career exploration also provided.

Responsibilities
  • Provide tutoring for high school students in Math, Science, English, Foreign Language, and Financial Literacy during class time and/or evening study halls Monday through Thursday.
  • Monitor student progress in classes & ensure their academic good standing.
  • Attend weekly summer staff meetings.
  • Communicate with professional staff regarding student progress.
  • Promote a supportive environment for all participants and serve as a positive role model.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.

The incumbent will be required to pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation ( BCI) Background check

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

  • Applicants with good communication skills and experience working with youth.
  • Strong academic background in Math & Science.
  • Persons who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population are encouraged to apply.
